After creating the melodious composition Zariya for Coke Studio@MTV Season 3 recently, AR Rahman comes up with another gem for the musical extravaganza that sets the perfect note for this Independence Day.

This time the music maestro blends contrasting styles in the song – Jagao mere des ko – in a way only he can! After getting almost lost in our dreams after listening Rahman’s soothing composition, wethinks only the master could have slipped in a heavily Carnatic-influenced rhythm section with a heavy dose of guitar, spiced with the powerful vocals of Suchi and Blaaze. Together they create a brilliant sound, one like you’ve never heard before.

Based on original Bengali lyrics by Rabindranath Tagore, this one has Prasoon Joshi’s inspiring and thought-provoking lyrics – a mix of Bengali and Hindi that is well worth a listen. Here’s another chance to hear Rahman effortlessly crooning the high-pitched track with such ease.

Composer duo Salim-Sulaiman released their first song from the show on the special occasion of Eid and we highly recommend it

Over the past few years, composer duo Salim-Sulaiman seems to have found a comfort space in Bollywood. Having scored for movies such as Chak De! India, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, Kurbaan and Fashion, the duo has composed for many Indi-pop performers, including Aasmaan, Shweta Shetty and others. In their own words, they seek to return to their roots and present the music culture of India in a form the youth of today can identify with. The formidable duo’s soundtrack for Coke Studio@MTV reflects a distinctly Sufiana influence in feel and sound.

The soothing composition starts with Munawar Masoom Khan’s impressive vocals singing Bismillah. However, the overall feel and light arrangement of the track belies the tone set by the composer duo, as Kailash Kher provides able support. The team gets into their element as the song starts playing. The track blends a contemporary arrangement of instruments with a distinctly Sufi sound.
